diffuse essential oils instead of burning candles - clean living hack

hey there! If you found this page, maybe you have just the tiniest bit of interest in investing in clean living and healthier alternatives. Well, let me help ya out, but before that, here’s a little about me! Over the past year or so, I have become increasingly more aware of the toxins around my home. These toxins are sneakily snuck into the simplest of foods and cleaning products, and let’s just say it’s been a long road to get to where I am now. I’ve spent countless hours researching, learning, and listening to various blogs, professionals, and holistic/natural living podcasts. Cleaner living quickly became quite the hobby and passion for me.

Now, let’s talk about you!

Wherever you find yourself at with “clean living”, there’s always room for improvement, so I’ve learned. It’s also something I’ve taken special care not to become consumed with. Once you dip your toe into the world of knowledge surrounding everyday toxins, it can be a bit overwhelming. A few common toxins that have begun showing increasingly more negative effects in the body are fragrances, chlorine, bleach, phthalates, formaldehyde (yeah, what??), ammonia, and parabens.

Check your products & read labels! This is key to learning more about clean living.

Trust me, no one really wants to be sitting in the grocery store aisle, combing through ingredient labels. But, it’s so necessary! More often than not, we can choose a less toxic product on the grocery shelf just by knowing what to look for. The good news is, you get better with practice! Most of these chemicals are masked under different names that we don’t have any clue what they mean. The kicker here is even products that are supposed to be “clean”, usually contain fragrance as an ingredient. Check for yourself! It might sound harmless, but believe me, there’s nothing harmless about it. The term fragrance is actually an umbrella term for thousands of different chemicals that companies choose not to disclose due to “trade secrets”. In fact, don’t take my word for it. Here are a few articles below that delve into more detailed accounts of different chemicals.

Links to learn about common chemicals.

  • Toxic Cleaning Supplies & Household Cleaners
    • “Household and cleaning products—including soaps, polishes, and grooming supplies—often include harmful chemicals. Even products advertised as “green” or “natural” may contain ingredients that can cause health problems. [this is called “greenwashing”] Some cleaning supplies can even be flammable or corrosive.” – American Lung Association
  • The Most Dangerous Household Chemicals
    • “Although we use them every day, many cleaners and chemicals we keep in our homes can be very dangerous if splashed on the skin, inhaled, or ingested. To avoid serious accidents, carefully follow the instructions on the product label and store any chemical product safely, especially if you have children or pets living in your home. Here are a number of common household chemicals that can cause severe health problems…”
  • Is Fragrance Toxic?
    • “Headaches and sore throats. These are all typical reactions to synthetic fragrances. The innocuous term “fragrance” is an umbrella term, hiding the identity of thousands of harmful chemicals. Because of weak FDA regulations and inconsistent business transparency, we typically have no idea what chemicals we’re being subjected to.”

What the freak??

So, my question to you is, why are you allowing yourself and your family to silently suffer? I’ve started switching out terrible cleaners around my home, washing my foods properly (& choosing the right food), and being MUCH more selective about what I put on my body. It has made a WORLD of difference, too! First of all, my skin has never looked or felt better. I don’t get headaches or nausea when cleaning anymore. And, I don’t break out in rashes after doing my laundry anymore either!

What have I been doing to cultivate a clean living lifestyle?

Eventually, through posts, I will share more about what I have been doing to minimize or eliminate harmful chemicals from my daily products. Until then, I can tell you that my best tool in doing so has been shopping through Young Living. I began diffusing their essential oils as an alternative to candles, and have since then been trying out many of their other products. I’ve tried their multi-purpose household cleaner (Thieves Cleaning Line), shampoo & conditioner, protein powder, antioxidant juice (Ningxia Red), and have been sharing this with friends! If you’re interested in buying any Young Living products, fill out the form below, and I’d love to help you out. Since I’ve been loving the products so much, I decided to turn it into a tiny tiny small biz! So you can support this little venture of mine AND clean up your home in the process!
